Koldo Case: The Controversial Management of Housing and Cash
Patricia Uriz, Koldo García's ex-partner, defends the legality of payments before the Supreme Court and denies accusations of illicit enrichment.

Patricia Uriz's Defense Before the Supreme Court
In the fourth session of the trial for the 'Mask Case,' the figure of Patricia Uriz, Koldo García's ex-partner, has taken on unexpected prominence. In a statement marked by secrecy and a presentation designed to avoid public recognition, Uriz attempted to dismantle the thesis of the Guardia Civil's Central Operational Unit (UCO). Her testimony focused on denying that the text messages, which alluded to terms like 'chistorras' or 'lechugas,' were codes to conceal illicit money flows.
The Mechanics of Cash and the PSOE
One of the most controversial points of her intervention was the explanation regarding the use of cash. According to Uriz, the deliveries received from the PSOE headquarters in Ferraz were not the product of commissions, but reimbursements for expenses advanced. The witness assured that the party maintained a "rigid" management policy where detailed expense sheets were submitted along with physical receipts to justify meals, travel, and other operational disbursements.
"I submitted meals, gasoline, coffees, trips, hotels," Uriz stated, emphasizing that she scrupulously separated expenses from the Ministry from those generated by political activity within the party.
Clarifications on Assets and Housing
The questioning addressed the couple's increase in assets during the pandemic, a key aspect of the investigation. Uriz rejected the accusations of unjustified enrichment, providing explanations about the acquisition of properties and the structure of their personal finances.
Regarding the housing in Benidorm, the witness clarified that, contrary to what the investigators suggested, the purchase was indeed linked to a mortgage associated with her apartment in Huarte, Navarra. Likewise, she justified the payment of a rental for a villa, known as 'Villa Parra,' as a personal arrangement that did not constitute a gift in exchange for political favors, but rather an expense that, at times, was not even reimbursed by former minister José Luis Ábalos.
The Social and Political Context
The management of resources and transparency in the public sphere are key elements that generate profound debates in our society. As the case proceeds, it is inevitable to recall how political management impacts public perception on critical issues such as access to housing. Just as in other European contexts, where power structures intertwine with domestic well-being, citizens scrutinize any financial irregularity.
Uriz's defense, by dissociating herself from the UCO's messages and presenting an account of "administrative management" of expenses, seeks to close the judicial path linking her to the plot's commissions. However, the judicial process must still clarify whether this version holds up against the documentary evidence that remains under analysis.
